Inclusive Football – 4/4/17

[06 Apr 2017]

After an enjoyable previous Inclusive Football day, we thought it would be good to include a few new faces for this edition of the tournament. The squad which were looking to come home victorious were as follows:

Toby Dent

Valerie Blazklva

Thomas Moore

Abdi Osman Mohamad

Leah Carr

Kieran Athraby

Jay Richardson

Megan Jackson

Grace Crompton

The morning session was designed to get the squads warmed ready for the competition in the 2nd session. The drills, which included a variety of dribbling, shooting and passing  were led by Y12 students along with the help of Y9 students:

Lewis Bibby

Hollie Young

Kirsten Young

Connor Foster

All the students thoroughly enjoyed these and threw themselves into it, it was great to see!

With the skills session over it was time for the business of the day…GAME TIME!

Game 1 v St Mary’s B

We flew out the traps with Jay Richardson slamming home an early goal. Perhaps this was our moment to shine?! it was, unfortunately, a struggle from there as Mary’s seemed to have slightly more experience than West’s warriors running out 6-1 winners…the mood was still high however.

Game 2 v Andrew Marvel

There was no time to dwell on previous games disappointment as we were straight into our second fixture. The heart and fight was no less apparent despite running out with an 8-3 loss. Richardson (2) and Mohamad providing the goals.

Game 3 v St Mary’s A

The final fixture started as a bit of an onslaught and had it not been for the inspired Leah Carr, who looked like a young Gordon Banks between the sticks, we could have been 8-0 down by half time! As it happened we were 3-1 down but still all to play for. We knew we were just playing for pride but this did deter us from continuing to fight until the very end! Abdi Osman Mohamad was a man possessed covering every blade of artificial grass and rubber bobble. Goals from Jay Richardson Kieran Athraby (2) gave us a scoreline of 5-3 but this doesn’t reflect the superb attitudes that were on display throughout the whole game.

Despite the results all the players and leaders were absolutely outstanding and remained a credit to themselves and Sirius Academy West, a huge well done to all involved!
