Three members of the Sirius Karate Academy are celebrating today after being selected to represent the Hull & East Riding Karate Academy at the Shindo-Kai Junior Karate Championships in Barnsley on Sunday 27th March 2011.

14 year old Jodie Standford will fight in the Girls 13-15 yrs Individual Kumite (Fighting) and has also been selected to fight for the Hull & East Riding Girls Team in the Team Fighting Event. Jodie will also compete in the KATA Section where she will perform the Black Belt KATA “Annanku” a very difficult KATA which Jodie has been working very hard to perfect.

14 year old Mohammed Othman has been selected to fight in the Boys 13-15 yrs Individual Kumite and has also been selected to represent the Hull & East Riding Boys Team.

12 year old Aboudi Neema has been selected to compete in the 10-12 yrs KATA Section where he will perform Pinan Nidan KATA.

Speaking about the athletes selection, the Hull & East Riding Squad Coach Wayne Clarke said “The 3 young Sirius pupils have shown a tremendous amount of Determination, effort and skill in their training and it is through these qualities that I have seen a MASSIVE IMPROVEMENT in their fighting and KATA ability. I would like to wish them every success at the Championships, I am sure they will do themselves and the School proud”.
