KELVIN 0 SIRIUS 4
Last night the Year 7 Football team travelled to Kelvin to play a “friendly”, in awful conditions and with a number of players missing through injury and illness, the team produced a dominant display to beat a full strength Kelvin 4-0.
A full debut was given to Connor Cape-Melbourne in goal, who maintained excellent focus throughout a very quiet game for him, he produced one good save and controlled his area well. Full first starts were given to Harry Storr and Stephen Pougher (Stephen producing a man of the match performance)
We moved away from our more normal 4-4-2 formation to a 3-5-2 in an attempt to take a stronger control of midfield with Stephen Pougher playing the anchor roll. This but an extra burden on Callum Baker Alex Appleby and Joe Boxall as the back 3 but they were well organised talked well and held an excellent line throughout the game.
The change in tactics showed its self to be the right decisions from the whistle with Stephen winning a lot of ball and then playing simple passes to use the passing ability of Jak Langley and the vision and powerful running of Josh Jarvis. Alfie Pougher and Harry Storr on the left and right wing always provided options for the ball and we started to play some good football into a driving wind.
Charlie Morris had an excellent first half pulling both of Kelvins centre backs around the pitch, He and Harry Knight created themselves a number of chances and could easily have a goal apiece in the first 15 minutes. As it was Sirius didn’t score until the 17th minute and it was due to the front two of Harry Knight and Charlie Morriss. After a slick passing movement down our left between Jak Langley Alfie Pougher and Josh Jarvis the ball was on the edge of the Kelvin area with Harry Knight. Charlie Morris ran toward the ball and then spun away (something he has been working on in training) this created that moment of confusion between the centre backs and the goal keeper, Harry saw his chance a lobbed the keeper, good goal 1-0 Sirius.
Sirius kept coming forward and forced a corner on our left hand side, as the players gathered in the penalty area Joe Boxall recognised the chance to come forward from the back sprinting from the half way line the ball was played to his feet by Charlie Morris and from outside the area with one touch smashed into the net (in a Stuart Pearce style) great great goal.
Half Time Kelvin 0 Sirius 2
The second half saw the introduction of Martin Jude and Adam Kelsey upfront and Nathan Voakes on the right wing. These changes did not alter the flow of the game it was still all Sirius. Martin and Adam showed a good reading and understanding of the game and it was Martin Jude who put Adam through for number 3. Martin showed good strength and a nice touch to lay the ball into the path of the on rushing Adam. Adam showed excellent control before slotting it past the Kelvin keeper 3-0.
At this point with 15 mins left excellent Josh Jarvis hit a thunderous shoot from just outside the area which whistled just over the bar. That was pretty much his last action of the game as Josh, Callum and Alfie we replaced by the reintroduction of Harry, Charlie and Jak.
Sirius continued to press even with a number of players playing now in strange rolls for them. Alex Appleby showing great strength of personality to lead the line and organise those around him.
Sirius continued to push forward and Jak Langley got fouled in the box while standing up to a strong challenge. Nathan Voakes stepped up to take the penalty and buried it in the bottom corner..
Final Whistle 4-0 Sirius
MoM Stephen Pougher closely followed by Alex Appleby and Callum Baker.
