Last ten minutes cost Year 8 victory!
The Sirius Academy Year 8 Rugby team were left to rue the last ten minutes of their match against rivals St Marys Sports College, as it cost them a chance of a victory. Playing against the team that beat them in last seasons Hull Schools Cup Final, the Sirius team started each half well and should have done enough to record the victory, however it was not to be and the team now focus on training in preparation for the Yorkshire Cup campaign, as they seek to reach their 2nd successive Yorkshire Final.
The match started with strong defence from Sirius, with Tom Jordan and Kai Thorpe leading the way with big tackles, in attack George Tyson-Wilson and Josh Lomax made countless yards forward running well off half-backs Harry Whittles and Callum Wilsher. After sustained pressure the impressive Josh Kirby played a neat pass to Lomax who crashed over outwide with Whittles converting for 6-0. Marys continued to come forward with Josh Atkinson, Liam Waudby and Kieran Sewell defending well wide out. Good yards from Tyson-Wilson and Thorpe saw the strong running Brad Elliott crash over out-wide for 10-0. Marys boucned back with a quick try to leave half-time at 10-6.
The 2nd half saw Sirius start well with Whittles using Lomax and Jay Kirkland well to make good yards, with Lewis Hewitt organising in the middle. Good yards from Jordan Webb and Atkinson created time for Elliott to again crash over with Whittles converting for 16-6. With Sirius pressing forward through Ben Macklin and Ryan Addinnall, quicking thinking from Kirby saw him race through with a Thorpe goal giving Sirius a 22-6 lead with fifteen left. With the game surely wrapped up, poor completion and discipline cost Sirius dear with three quick tries leaving them level at 22-22 with three minutes left. Again poor defence let Marys up-field and a loose pass saw them score with little time left to leave Sirius with a 26-22 loss.
Please congratulate the following boys:
Jordan Webb, Liam Waudby, Josh Atkinson, Jay Kirkland, Kieran Sewell, Harry Whittles, Callum Wilsher, Tom Jordan, Josh Kirby, Kai Thorpe, Josh Lomax, Brad Elliott, George Tyson-Wilson, Ryan Addinnal, Ben Macklin, Lewis Hewitt, Louis Macklin.
All Sirius teams now await the Yorkshire Cup draws with details sent out when known.
