Maths in nature at Hull university. Are numbers beautiful?

[27 Mar 2015]

What a great day Mr West’s year 9 maths class had on Friday 20th March. This class had an opportunity to visit Hull University and experience a workshop on the Golden Ratio and the Fibonacci numbers.  A team from the Further Mathematics Support Program planned and delivered a challenging and interesting enrichment session.

Working in groups, the year 9’s demonstrated their maths skills and applied them to task they where given. The task they faced linked the golden ratio and Fibonacci number to nature and then allowed pupils to investigate what makes a perfect face. Proving that numbers really are beautiful!

The class set a great example and where a credit to the Academy.

Thanks to Mr Branston, Mr West and Mrs Clarke for supporting the trip.
