Northern Young Writers Festival

[13 Oct 2017]

On Friday 29th September 2017, sixteen year 9 pupils attended the first ever northern Young Writers’ Festival, which organised by First Story and hosted by the University of Hull in the newly refurbished Middleton Hall. Throughout the day, students were given the opportunity to listen to top writers/poets reading and discussing their work (including ex-Poet Laureate Simon Armitage and spoken word artist, slam poet and playwright Joelle Taylor). The students were then given the chance to partake in a creative writing workshop with other professional writer. The students behaved impeccably and were a real asset to the Academy. At the end of the festival, Ashleigh Thompson was selected to read out her poem ‘If Social Media Was Non-Existent’.
