Official Macmillan Coffee Morning Total…

[11 Oct 2016]

On Friday 30th September, Sirius Academy West hosted a Macmillan Coffee Morning to coincide with The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning; Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event for people facing cancer. Organised by Miss Fowler, the event went on to raise a whopping £201.81. This fantastic amount was raised by a bun sale and a sponsored silence, which were organised by members of P6 tutor group, as well as other volunteers.

The reason for the Macmillan Coffee Morning was to raise awareness of the charity and what it stands for. According to the Macmillan website ‘one in three of us will face cancer’, which means that out of a tutor group of 23 and one teacher, eight of the people in that room, by average, will face cancer in their lifetime. The money Sirius Academy raised at our Coffee Morning will help to make sure that no one has to face cancer alone. Macmillan provide medical, emotional, practical and financial support, as well as campaigning for better cancer care. Macmillan also realise that you don’t have to have cancer to be affected by it, so they offer support and advice to family and friends of cancer sufferers.

A statement from Miss Fowler, teacher of MFL and Business; “I would like to say a huge thank you to my tutor group P6, for their help with the organisation and running of the Macmillan Coffee Morning, as well as those students and staff members who brought in cakes to be sold. A big well done to the two students who completed the sponsored silence and those which helped me on the stall on Friday. I look forward to organising our next Macmillan Coffee Morning next year!”.
