Royal Albert Hall Visit
On Wednesday 15th November, 38 of our students travelled to The Royal Albert Hall in London, to perform alongside 11 other secondary school students from Hull and other ensembles from areas around the country as part of the Music For Youth Proms and funded through City of Culture 2017.
After an incredibly early start, setting off from Sirius at 7am and arriving in London by just before 1pm, Students rehearsed their pieces in the afternoon, with the final performance involving all ensembles beginning at 7pm.
Students performed the premiere of ‘Swerving East’, part of A Larkin Poem set to music composed by our very own local composer, Dr Tom Lawrence, which featured over 700 instrumentalists and vocalists from the various Hull secondary schools.
After listening to a range of diverse and superb quality performances, the concert ended with an explosive finale performance of another new work named ‘Shine The Light Bright’ by Pete Letanke, involving all 1000 young musicians who had taken part in the concert that evening.
All students, staff and accompanying parents arrived back to the academy at 3.20am, tired but elated by their experience.
