Sirius 10 – Sydney Smith 2
The Y11 Football team completed their league season in style with an emphatic victory over Sydney Smith tonight. Notoriously strong, and still with a chance to win the league, Sydney Smith arrived expectant of a victory. However, in arguably the best performance in their five years at the Academy, the boys dominated throughout and were rewarded with a comfortable victory.
Sirius started strongly, and with a full compliment of players to choose from for the first time in this season’s campaign, soon raced into a 3-0 lead with goals from Cameron Faulkner, Kai Carrington and James Burgess. Sydney Smith then staged a brief comeback when a penalty was scored to make it 3-1 at Half-Time.
In response to the need for a quick start and the all important next goal, Sirius scored three goals in the first 5mins of the Second-Half to all but end the game. Mitchell Levi-Lewis, Ryan Holden and Carrington finishing excellent attacks.
With Connor Boyce and George Woodhead excelling in defence, protected by the impressive James Garrod in midfield, Sirius continued to exert their authority. Further goals from Levi-Lewis (2), Brandon Green and Carrington were only slightly marred by a Sydney Smith consolation from former Sirius student Lucas Wintrip.
The boys will now turn their attention to the Hull Schools 5s in November and cup competition in early 2014.
