Sirius Academy 14 Newland School for Girls 2
Sirius Academy are through to the next round of the cup after a convincing win against Newland School for Girls. Sirius had some good chances in front of goal but hit the crossbar on two occasions in the early stages. Danny Waters scored the opener after some great link up play with Ellie Cone. Newland School for Girls responded shortly after with a good strike from an awkward angle that caught out keeper Alisha Pearson. Ellie Smirk put Sirius back in front with an outstanding volley into the corner. From then on in it was all Sirius, who attacked well and continued to to create chances. Danny Waters was on target again before Ellie Cone got a well deserved goal after some great footwork. Waters rounded off her hat-trick with a great strike after Holly Dodsworth had played a fine ball through. Kayleigh Wallers free kick was unstoppable from 25 yards out as she struck into the top corner. Holly Dodsworth scored the final goal of the half, showing real skill and composure.
The second half started much the same, with Sirius on the attack, Molly Bigby, Emily Andrew and Sophie Murray was solid at the back and anything that got in their half was well dealt with. Mia Duke had been pushed further forward and had an immediate impact with a quality goal. Katie Clarkie was working well on the wing and coming more into the game with some good attack and defence. Holly Dodsworth got her hat-trick by scoring two more goals in quick succession. A lapse in concentration and shape let Newland get one back, but Sirius finished strong with two more goals from Kayleigh Waller, another goal from Mia Duke before Holly Dodsworth scored just before the final whistle, after some great skills from Lucy Fielder out wide, making the score 14 – 2.
Please congratulate the squad on their impressive victory:-
