Sirius Academy played host to a VIP on the 26th March 2012: BBC Journalist, Presenter and local legend… Peter Levy.
Levy stopped off on his tour of the Academy to be interviewed by an audience of students from Sirius’s Debate Club about his life and work as a journalist and presenter. Sirius’s Drama Studio was transformed into a Digital TV Studio for the visit and the interview was filmed using one of the Academy’s new permanent ‘Green Screen’ walls.
Student’s turned the tables on the BBC Look North and Radio Humberside presenter who fielded a host of questions on topics including ‘his most embarrassing on-screen moment’; ‘most charismatic interviewee’ and ‘favourite football team’ – a subject that the veteran presenter deliberately skirted despite skilful questioning from Brandon in Year 10.
The Debate Club, who have recently taken part in BBC School Report, were able to develop their media skills again by taking on professional roles such as Presenters, Director, Floor Manager and Vision Mixer. This was a unique experience for the Debate Club who meet every Wednesday lunchtime to discuss and debate issues of current affairs, politics and law, particularly as a number of them hope to pursue careers in journalism or the media.
Peter Levy Tweeted after his visit: “Been meeting the students and talented teaching staff at the Sirius Academy. Great people, very impressive building. Hull should be proud.”
