Sirius Academy West 10 Woldgate 1 (U15 Girls Football)
Sirius Academy West 10 Woldgate College 1
Sirius Academy West started their Football National Cup off with a fantastic 10 – 1 victory over Woldgate College. Danny Waters was in fine form from the kick off when she scored two goals in quick succession. Holly Dodsworth was running the show from midfield and was proving too tricky to handle with the ball at her feet, with a fine individual goal to extend the scoreline to 3 – 0. The centre back partnership of Beth Dixon and Sam Tomlinson was looking strong and whenever Woldgate got in the Sirius half they managed to put in some superb challenges to win the ball back. Katie Clark and Holly Bigadyke were looking good from the wide areas and seeing plenty of the ball. Danny Waters was next to score again with a superbly hit 25 yard strike into the top corner. Holly Dodsworth again showed her class with a fine run and finish. Just before the halftime whistle Sirius switched off at the back and gave a sloppy pass away in which the Woldgate striker latched onto and put past Rachel Fox in goal. Making the scoreline 5 – 1 at halftime.
Danny Waters finished where she had left off from the first half, linking up well with Holly Dodsworth to score two more well taken goals. Sirius were on attack for the majority of the second half and won a string of corners. It was from one of the corners that Tegan Whitney got on the scoresheet, she positioned herself well just outside the box and as the ball was cleared her first time strike was hit with precision into the bottom corner. Alisha Pearson was moved out on the wing and caused the Woldgate left back a lot of problems. Alex Butler and Libby Hinson at the left and right back positions were making sure that the Sirius defence did not concede another. Georgina Robertson was moved into the middle of the park and looked more dangerous going forward but also tracked back well. Danny Waters and Holly Dodsworth were creating a good partnership, and their quick one – two play was finished off with another Danny Waters goal fired into the top corner. Sophie Murray and Holly Bigadyke was battling hard all game and got their rewards after some good determination in the Woldgate penalty box resulting in the final goal of the game from Sophie Murray to make the scoreline 10 – 1 in favour of Sirius Academy.
Please congratulate the girls on their fantastic performance and attitude:-
