Sirius Academy West 32 Sirius Academy North 30
The Year 7 Sirius Academy West Boys managed to come back from 30 – 18 to win the Hull Schools RL Plate 30 – 32. The game was evenly matched throughout and it was always going to be won by the team that controlled the ball for their sets of six as the Hull KR pitch was very wide with lots of space to exploit. It was Sirius Academy North that got off to the best start as they scored two quick tries to make the scoreline 10 – 0 after only five minutes. Sirius North knocked on from their next set of six, and it was the West sides turn to get some points on the board. Lennie Ellis showed his skill as he took on the line with a good show and go to cross over in the corner. Shortly after, it was the impressive Bailey Jennison who proved too strong and fast for the North side as he went over under the sticks. A mistake from the West side in their next set of six handed Sirius North the ball over in good field position, and they took full advantage as they scored a well worked team try in the corner to make it 14 – 10. The lead was extended as poor defending from Sirius West allowed the player to break through the would be tacklers and race over under the sticks to make it 20 – 10 in favour of Sirius North at the half time break.
Sirius Academy West got off to a great start in the second half, some good hands down the line saw Bailey Jennison put away out wide and there was no stopping him to make the score 20 – 14. A similar try was scored shortly after, some great link up play between Lennie Ellis and Will Furmage put Bailey Jennison into another gap out wide as he raced over in the corner to make it 20 – 18. An injury to influential hooker Sam Hassard was a big blow for the West side as they conceded two quick tries from Sirius North as they looked to have put the game out of sight with a 30 – 18 scoreline with only seven minutes on the clock. But the character and desire of the West side shone through as they did everything they could to get back into the game. Malachi Tonys effort in defence and attack was inspirational, and he went over for a well-deserved try that was scored through pure determination to get his team back in the game at 30 – 22. Sirius West controlled the ball well and found space outwide again for Bailey Jennison who managed to run the ball under the sticks to make it a nail-biting 30 – 28 in the favour of North with only minutes remaining. Sirius Academy West held their nerve and managed to score in their next set of six, and it was the try scoring machine Bailey Jennison who went over in the corner for his fifth try of the game to put West in the lead for the first time in the game. Sirius North won the ball back with one minute left and looked to have gone over in the corner, but the player was held up superbly well by the West side. The final whistle went and West celebrated their victory by lifting the Hull Schools Plate.

Both sides played some extremely good rugby and should be very proud of their performance. We have some fantastic young players at both Sirius Academy sites and look forward to picking up more silverware as they continue in their schools rugby. The game could have gone either way and was a great spectacle for Year 7 Boys Hull Schools Rugby.
