Sirius Academy West 38 Archbishop Sentamu Academy 16

Sirius Academy Year 11 Boys ended their Sirius Academy West career by winning the Hull Schools Trophy with a superb performance over a strong Archbishop Sentamu Academy side.
Archbishop Sentamu started the game brightly and managed to get over for an early score to make it 4 – 0. Sirius Academy West responded well and got a try of their own when Reece Gooch ran a great line out in the centres to go over to make it 4 – 4. This gave Sirius a boost of confidence as they started to break through the Archbishop Sentamu defensive line and make some good yards forward and looked the more energetic and enthusiastic of the two teams. Rhys Purchon and Harrison Longden were taking the ball up at every opportunity and dragging players into the tackles. Some quick play the balls on the back of this opened up the Archbishop defence as Jack Arnett was put through the gap by the impressive Mikey Lewis to make the score 10 – 4. The Sirius defence was looking solid as the full team worked hard for each other, getting off the line and putting their attack under pressure. This pressure led to a mistake centre field and Sirius capitalised on this with a fine solo try from Luke Moss to make it 16 – 4. Archbishop had the final say of the half to make the halftime score 16 – 8.
Archbishop got off to a flying start at the beginning of the second half with a try in the corner after a fumble from the kick off to put Archbishop Sentamu back into the game at 16 – 12. This was a real test of character for Sirius as they worked hard as a team to ensure they were next on the scoresheet. Great carries from Declan Jackson and Tyler Hackett got the Sirius side up the field with ease. The best try of the game was next up as Mikey Lewis showed outstanding skill to dummy and step through the defence, with only the fullback to beat Kieran Bartlett was there in support for a nice draw and pass as he went over under the sticks to make the score 22 -12. The floodgates opened for Sirius as they started to dominate with some great attacking sets that Archbishop Sentamu struggled to deal with. Some excellent forwards play once again made space outwide and quick hands down the line put Dylan Hepworth in at the corner. A similar play in the next set of six in attack saw players dragged in and then a ball out wide to Jack Arnott who showed too much strength to go over and make the score 30 – 12. Archbishop got another try back to make for a tense finish but Sirius showed their class and went over for two more tries of their own. Mikey Lewis went over for a well deserved try as his show and go fooled the Archbishop defence, cover defence came across but his sidestep was too good for them as he went over for a superb individual try. The final try of the game saw Reece Gooch go over with a well worked team try after Rhys Purchon ran the ball in again and his quick play the ball caught the defence struggling to get set as Sirius ran out 38 – 16 well worthy winners.
