Sirius Academy West hosted the annual Maths and English G&T Challenge
Sirius Academy West hosted the annual Maths and English G&T Challenge for children in Y6 last week. There was an excellent response from local Primary Schools with eight different schools in attendance enabling over 100 pupils the opportunity to develop numeracy and literacy skills. Last week’s session is part of a series of similar events that aspires to prepare pupils for their forthcoming SATS.
Mr O’Neill and his team delivered a gothic Dickensian themed session in the morning based on Great Expectations’ Miss Havisham. Miss Khatun and members of the Maths Department then challenged the pupils to participate in a team competition based on different themes in numeracy including algebra, proportion and ration, and geometry.
Congratulations to all those in attendance. Their attitude, behaviour and enthusiasm throughout was outstanding!
All those that attended are encouraged to visit the Sirius West website and find the transition portal. This will then provide them access to additional resources to improve numeracy and literacy, and examples of work and pictures from the day.
Well done!
Mr Gordon and Miss Shaw
