Sirius Academy West U15 Girls through to Round 6 of the National Cup
The U15 girls made it through to the 6th Round of the National Cup by beating Notre Dame High School from Sheffield 2 – 0.
Notre Dame was the first to get a shot away on goal, but a great stop from keeper Rachel Fox prevented them from taking an early lead. From then on it was Sirius that dominated the play and was camped in the Notre Dame half for long periods of time. Sirius had many shots on goal but saw them either go just wide or well saved by the keeper. Holly Dodsworth was running the show in the centre of midfield and it was her through ball to Danny Waters that put the home side in the lead after Waters finished in style in the top corner. It was all Sirius until the halftime break but they could not double their lead.
The second half started well for the visitors and some great defending from the back three of Beth Dixon, Chloe Dunn and Tegan Whitney ensured that they did not get an equiliser. Sam Tomlinson was playing a new role in front of the back three and was outstanding in breaking down the Notre Dame attack. The victory was sealed with ten minutes remaining as Holly Dosworths shot found its way into the bottom corner with precision. The Notre Dame side battled hard to try and get a goal back but Sirius worked hard to get bodies behind the ball and make things difficult for them. The final score ended 2 – 0 in favour of Sirius Academy in a great team performance that will see them go through to the 6th round of the National Cup for the first time.
Please congratulate the girls on their success:-
Rachel Fox, Tegan Whitney, Chloe Dunn, Beth Dixon, Katie Clark, Holly Biggadyke, Georgina Robertson, Danny Waters, Holly Dodsworth, Sam Tomlinson and Sophie Murray.
