Sirius Academy West Year 7 Girls Rugby League Hull Schools Champions
The Sirius Academy Year 7 Girls won all 5 games in the Hull Schools RL Competition to be crowned Hull Schools Champions! Without their captain and influential player Lucy Parker unable to play due to injury all the girls lifted their game and worked hard for each other showing real determination and skill.
Sirius Academy West 3 Sirius Academy North 1
The Sirius derby was the first game on the fixture list, and it was an evenly matched game as both teams had improved significantly since playing in the Yorkshire Finals back in March. Nicole George broke through on the first tackle and a quick play the ball saw Mia Cheesman scoot over the tryline. North responded well and got a try back, before Leah Pearson showed real strength to put West back in the lead. Mia Cheesman scored just before the final whistle to seal the victory.
Sirius Academy West 6 Archbishop Sentamu 0
Sirius played some of their best rugby in this game, in attack Nicole George proved too much handle going over for a full length try. The best try of the tournament came next, on the 6th tackle Chantelle Dunn received the ball and put in a pin point accurate grubber kick to the corner, Beth Waters knew the kick was coming her way and gathered the ball to go over for the second try, one that a Super League team would have been proud of. Chantelle Dunn, went over for two tries of her own before Mia Cheesman and Tegan Purdon rounded off the scoring. The defence in this game was nothing short of superb as Louise Jessop led the line with some outstanding tackles.
Sirius Academy West 4 Malet Lambert 3
Malet was one of the most improved teams at the tournament after having success in the National Competition, but they had never beaten Sirius West in any competition. Chantelle Dunn was first over, but Malet equalised, Chantelle Dunn put Sirius back in the lead but again Malet equalised. Nicole thought she had won the game for Sirius but Malet went over in the late stages of the game. With one more set of six to play it was Talia Martinez who found a gap showed strength to get the ball down as Sirius celebrated their victory.
Sirius Academy West 3 Boulevard Academy 0
Sirius knew that if they won their last two games they would be Hull Schools Champions. Their defence was looking solid as some big strong girls from Boulevard could have caused them problems. Chantelle Dunn was first over the tryline before some smart play from Beth Waters that saw her dive over the tryline to double the lead. Mia Cheesman put the game out of reach with a superb solo try as she scooted around the defensive line with speed to go over in the corner.
Sirius Academy West 4 St Marys 0
Sirius were really up for this one, and it showed from the start as Talia Martinez showed real determination to go over. Chantelle Dunn weaved her way through before Leah Pearson got her second try of the competition. Mia Cheesman showed her class from dummy half again as she spotted the gap and there was no stopping her to make the final score 4 – 0 and be crowned Hull Schools Champions.
Please congratulate the girls on their outstanding performance, attitude, teamwork and determination. I have high hopes for these group of girls over the next four years and we will be working hard to ensure we get to a National Final! Player of the tournament for Sirius Academy West went to Louise Jessop for her outstanding work in defence.
