Sirius Academy Year 7 Girls 5-a-side Football Champions
The Sirius Academy Year 7 Girls 5 a-side football team were crowned Champions of the Hull Schools Tournament at GOALS.
The girls were drawn in a league with Archbishop Sentamu and Kingswood Academy, both of which proved to be tough opponents in two very close games.

Archbishop Sentamu dominated the first half with some good chances and took a well deserved lead in the early exchanges, they should have extended their lead too, but keeper Lucy Sainty was in fine form, making a string of great saves. But Sirius Academy fought back well and Isabella Taylor equalised just before the halfime break. Archbishop Sentamu got back their lead, but again Sirius worked hard and got their rewards when Ellie Robertson equalised. With not long left before the fulltime whistle it was Lauren Prendergast who found the back of the net to take all three points.
Sirius Academy 4 Kingswood 3
Another tight match saw Sirius just manage to win their next game to finish top of their league. Sirius were 4 – 1 up at one point after two goals from Isabella Taylor, one from Paige Collingwood and an own goal gave them a comfortable lead. But Kingswood had other ideas and really pushed forward, scoring two late goals for a nervous last few minutes. Fantastic defending from Phoebe Armstrong ensured that Sirius Academy held on for the victory.
This meant that Sirius Academy had finished top of their league and would get to play on pitch 1 “Wembley” to play against the top two teams from the other leagues, which was St Marys and Malet Lambert.

Sirius Academy pulled out one of their best performances against a very good St Marys side. The girls worked well as a team, stringing some good passing moves together and it was just a matter of time before they took the lead, once again it was the prolific goalscorer Isobella Taylor who took her chances well to make it 2 – 0. St Marys had a couple of chances of their own, but again keeper Lucy Sainty was making some good saves. To seal the game Ellie Robertson extended the score to 3 – 0 after a great finish in the corner.

Malet Lambert had also beat St Marys, so it meant that the winner of this game would be crowned champions. The defence of the Sirius team was outstanding, limiting their skilful centre forward to half chances. Phoebe Armstrong marked their main goalscoring threat out of the game with some strong challenges and great positional play. The attack from Sirius was looking good and Isabella Taylor was looking dangerous in front of goal as she managed to put away her three chances. Malet Lambert got a late consolation goal in the last minute of the game, but Sirius held on to ensure they finished the Champions of Hull at 5 a-side football.
