Sirius Academy achieved great individual and team success in the Hull Schools Cross-Country Championships staged at St.Mary’s College. Fantastic efforts from all our students both girls and boys alike ensured success not only for themselves but for the academy too!
Will Beaumont in Year 7 was crowned the Minor Boys Champion(Year 7 Boys) and Kenan Stephenson the Intermediate Boys Champion (Year 10/11 Boys). to add to this the Year 10 Boys team clinched the Boys Intermediate Championship! Whilst Holly Dodsworth (3rd) finished so close in the Minor Girl’s (Year 7) event and Mia Duke (4th) in the Junior Girl’s (Year 9) event.
Individual successes were supported by many courageous efforts from our students with many finishing within the top ten and top twenty in races with up to 80 competitors.
Having won the Sirius Academy Cross-Country House event- Will Beaumont was always quietly considered to be a challenger for the title -and he did not let himself or the academy down. A most determined young boy who gradually ran his nearest opposition into the ground. He was closely followed by Ryan Coult (7th).
Kenan Stephenson won the Junior title in 2012 and now followed that with the Intermediate title in 2013. A fabulous and runner who was matched all the way by his team mate Luke Salas with both boys leaving the opposition behind and Luke finishing a worthy runner-up(2nd place). Supported by Joe Wood (7th);Luke Collingwood (9th); Brandon Leigh and Chis Brown- the boys secured the team Championship.
Holly Dodsworth in Year 7 came so close to winning the Girl’s Minor Event -finishing 3rd and just battled out of winning the championship in the last strides. a tremendous effort! The consistent Mia Duke who was Year 7 Champion in 2012 finished a gallant 4th in the Junior( Year 8/9) Event -no mean achievement as she was running against students a year older! She was closely followed by Ellie Cone (6th); Shauna Jones (11th) and Molly Bigby;Kayleigh Waller; and Jodie Kerr.
The fantastic efforts of all our students ensured that we and Hull are well represented by many runners from Sirius in the forthcoming County Championships.
Overall a great day for the academy with 86 runners representing us at the meeting! Please praise all competitors for having taken part. A great effort by all.
Official results are to follow when they have been sent through.
Many thanks to my co-organiser -Gemma Barton for the girl’s and to Martin Smith; Jessica Walker and Jennie Simmons for their support on the day.
