Sirius West Vs Sirius North (Year 11)
The first game of the season for the year 11’s was again away against Sirius Academy North; Although this time the West boys were dominant from start to finish.
Sirius West won the toss to start the game with a big downfield kick from Luke Moss. North returned in good form to complete the set deep into the West half. The platform was quickly set through big drives forward from Declan Jackson and Rhys Purchon, who caused problems for the North defence. After a shaky defensive set from North they had the opportunity to attack until their centre knocked the ball on during the second tackle. With West in a good field position, the forwards linked up to slip through the defence and send Keane Stephenson to the left of the posts to take the score to 4-0 in the early stages.
After the first try, the West boys managed to get a roll on with quick play the balls, causing all sorts of problems for the North defence. This quick play allowed Mikey Lewis to split the markers and make a break with support from Callum Riley who scored the second try to extend the lead to 8-0.
From the restart, another barnstorming run from Luke Moss took the West attack within metres of the North line, again a quick play saw a short ball played to Rhys Purchon who steamrolled over the line to take the score to 12-0; this time the try was converted by Mikey Lewis to make it 14-0.
Sirius North was left with no reply as the West lads were too strong going forward and defending in numbers to foil the tactics of the North team. This allowed us to pin them down in their own half, which lead their kicker to take charge and attempt to punt the ball down field; however Luke Moss thought otherwise and charged down the punt to send the ball bobbling over the try line, where he managed to scramble and land on the ball to bring the score to 20-0.
With the North boys under pressure, the West lads revelled in their talent to score a further three tries from Luke Moss, Mikey lewis and Callum Riley. This extended the lead to 36-0.
As North looked down and out, they came back with a last attempt to play off the back of the mistakes of the west boys to score two consolation tries. One of which was from a successful kick to the corner for the winger to outpace our lads and put the ball down to complete the game with a final score of 36-8.
