Sirius West Year 7 Girls beat Sirius North in first RL match
Sirius West and Sirius North Year 7 Girls played in their first ever rugby league match against each other in a friendly to prepare them both for the Hull Schools Tournament in January. Both teams did not disappoint, as the defence on both sides was exceptional, with only 4 tries scored in the 50 minute game.

Both teams started the game well, with very few errors in attack and some great defence on show. Neither team could find a breakthrough as some strong tackles were going in from both sides. Willing runners from Sirius West were Lucy Sainty, Beth Robinson Key and Chelsea Anderson, making good yards forward. Captain Georgia Coggin was looking smart around the ruck and finding good space on the back of some quick play the balls. The first try of the game came from a good run by Alix Worth, who turned in the tackle and offloaded to Lucy Sainty, who showed real strength and speed to run over 30 meters and score in the corner. Sirius North stepped up a gear and had some good runs forward to get near the Sirius West tryline, but the defence of the West side was outstanding as Rachel Robinson and Georgia Coggin were up quick to make sure they didn’t concede a try. Mollie Mae Simpson broke a few tackles and went racing down the wing, only for a Sirius North player to come across and make a fantastic last ditch tackle to stop a certain try. After a mistake near the Sirius North tryline, it was Georgia Coggin who reacted quickly, picked up the ball well and jinxed her way over to double the lead before the halftime break.
The second half was very evenly matched, but again the strength of some of the West players was too much for the North side, with Beth Robinson Key using real power to break through the defensive line and go over for another try. Sirius North piled on the pressure to get a try back of their own, but the relentless defence of Sirius West was hard to break down. Alix Worth and Abbie Brennan were looking good in attack, and off the back of their good runs, it made space again for Beth Robinson Key to power over the tryline. Sirius North looked to have got over the tryline in the last play of the game, but again some brave defending from Sirius West ensured that they kept a clean sheet in their first ever match.
Please congratulate the squad on their success, attitude and behaviour.
