Sirius West Year 9 Girls – Hull Schools RL Champions
Only Sirius Academy West and Sirius Academy North could raise a team for the Year 9 Girls Hull Schools RL Tournament at Craven Park last night, but what a game it was as the two Sirius sides battled it out to see who would become Champions of Hull.
Sirius Academy West 6 Sirius Academy North 2
The game started off very evenly matched with both sides testing each other out in defence. It was difficult to break through either defensive line with some big hits coming in from both teams. The deadlock was finally broken when Nicole George burst through showing real power and speed. Sirius North responded well and got a try back to level the scores as they powered over from close range. Sirius West were looking good in attack and when Lucy Stewart was first to react to a dropped ball she raced over 70 metres to touchdown and make it 2 – 1. The score was extended when smart play from Jasmine Fielder and Chantelle Dunn put Nicole George through gap and there was no stopping her as she went over for her second of the match. Sirius North nearly got over the tryline themselves but a try saving tackle from the impressive Tegan Purdon prevented them as she got her body under the ball and held up the Sirius North player. The try of the match was next to come when some great link up play between Lucy Parker and Nicole George saw Talia Martinez back up the play and step her way through the Sirius North defence. Sirius North got another try back, once again from close range, but it was Sirius West who had the last word with Lucy Parker showing her impressive step and go to extend the scoreline to 5 -2, before Lucy Stewart finished off a fine move in the corner for her well deserved second try of the game.
The scoreline finished 6 – 2 to Sirius Academy West, but this was a superb advert for girls rugby at this age group as both teams gave everything and have improved massively over the last few years.
Please congratulate the talented Year 9 Girls for their outstanding performance, effort and attitude:-
Lucy Parker, Lucy Stewart, Chantelle Dunn, Talia Martinez, Tegan Purdon, Beth Waters, Nicole George, Jasmine Fielder (Year 8), Zeina Hassoum (Year 8)
