Why is the study of Physical Education important?
BTEC Sport give students the opportunity to explore the many facets of the sports industry allowing them to develop a greater knowledge and interest in areas for future development. Sport and Physical Education play a vital role in an individual’s development along with many future career opportunities.

What will you learn?
Course content and assessment:
Single Award: 4 units (Equivalent to 1 A level)
2 External examination unit:
- Anatomy and physiology – Skeletal system, Muscular system, cardiovascular system, respiratory system and energy systems.
- Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being.
2 Internally assessed coursework units:
- Professional Development in the Sports Industry
- Sports Leadership
Double award: 9 units (Equivalent to 2 A levels)
3 External examination units:
- Anatomy and physiology – Skeletal system, Muscular system, cardiovascular system, respiratory system and energy systems.
- Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being.
- Investigating Business in Sport and the Active Leisure Industry.
6 Internally assessed coursework units:
- Professional Development in the Sports Industry
- Sports Leadership
- Skill acquisition
- Rules, Regulations and Officiating in Sport.
- Sports Event Organisation.
- Application of Fitness testing
Entry requirements:
5 GCSE’s or equivalent at 4 or above including English and Maths (You do not need to have studied any Sports/PE related courses at level 2)

How does the study of BTEC Sport support your study of other subjects?
BTEC Sport is a subject that works well with other KS5 subjects; it marries well with subjects such as History, Psychology, Biology and Health and Social care but can also complement other subjects at KS5.
