Yr 7 Boys football
South Holderness 1 – Sirius 4
Last night the year 7 boys faced a tough trip to South Holderness for a friendly. South Holderness had finished second in their league losing only once. The trip was made harder by the loss of both regular keepers Adam Kelsey (injury) Kane Tock (illness).
Full credit has to be given to Stephen Pougher who put his self forward for the team to go in goal.
Sirius started brilliantly with Jamie Gould making his debut in central midfield in place of Stephen in goal. Jamie, Jak Langley and Josh Jarvis “bossed” the midfield from the start playing some excellent triangle football, short one touch two touch stuff and then looking to spread the game to the ever willing Nathan Voakes and Dominic Litwinski on the left and right wings. At the back Callum Baker, Alex Appleby and Joe Boxall produced another solid display of quality defending against a very quick Holderness frontline. Up front Charlie Morriss and Harry Knight caused the Holderness back 4 nothing but problems from the start.
The first goal came directly from a corner which was forced by Nathan Voakes and Harry Knight boxing the Holderness right back into a mistake. Nathan swung in a wicked curling corner which went straight in, strange goal but they all count 1-0 Sirius.
Sirius simply kept coming forward with large amounts of the play started at the back Callum Baker Alex Appleby and Joe Boxall all comfortable on the ball and all looking to play through midfield or step out from the back forcing the Holderness midfield to react. One of the best moves of the first half started with Stephen Pougher rolling the ball the Callum Baker who played the ball square at Alex Appleby. Alex played the ball into Jamie Gould, to Josh Jarvis to Jak Langley. Jak Langley in the centre circle played in Dominic Litwinski on the right who ran to the edge of the Holderness area and pulled the ball back to the on rushing Charlie Morriss. Charlie “sold” the keeper a brilliant dummy to round him, sadly an excellent centre back for Holderness had tracked back and cleared up.
The second goal came down the right hand side with Dominic Litwinski beating his man and playing the ball to Jak Langley. Jak turned and passed toward Charlie Morriss, Charlie stepped over the ball for the waiting, unmarked Harry Knight who had ghosted into the area. Harry simply smashed it in for what was a really good goal.
Half Time Holderness 0- Sirius 2
Half time saw the introduction of Alfie Pougher, Martin Jude and Harry Storr. Harry Storr produced an excellent tackle early in the second half on Holderness’ best player and basically “snuffed” him out of the game. Up front Martin Jude showed some real class and maturity by simply holding the ball up and looking to play other players in and playing the ball into space. Alfie Pougher produced a high energy high skill level display on the left wing giving the Holderness right back a torrid time.
It was Alfie beating his man that lead to the corner from which Sirius scored their third. Joe Boxall swung the corner and in a training ground move Alex Appleby rose high to power his header home. 3-0 to Sirius.
Full credit to South Holderness because they started to rally and never gave up, they continued to try to play the ball around. At this point in the game Connor Morgan-Hanson and Andrew Ramsden (making his debut) came on both produced some excellent tackles and continued the passing football Sirius tried to play.
With about 15 mins left Holderness broke down their right and for the first time got round the back of our defence and whipped the ball in, it took a couple of deflections and somehow ended up at the feet of the Holderness forward who slotted home from 6 yards.
Sirius simply regrouped with Josh Jarvis, Jamie Gould, Alex Aplleby and Callum Baker simply upping their work rate again.
Sirius’ final goal was scored by Josh Jarvis when the ball broke to him in the area, great first touch and he buried it.

Man of the Match Alex Appleby who was simply immense, although I could pick another 5 or 6 who had excellent games.
