Table Cricket Wednesday 18th April

[18 Apr 2018]

On Wednesday 18th April a crack squad of 7 Sirius superstars made hour long trip up the M62 to Headingley Cricket Centre, Leeds to pit their wits against a collection of the finest table cricketing schools from across Yorkshire. Dreams of a national final at Lords Cricket Ground were running through the minds of all involved…including the management team!

Squad:
Sophie Norfolk
Ola Weglarz
Connor Chapman
Camron Ellam
Caitlin Ellam
Logan Edson
Matthew Waslin

The day was organised into a 4 team round robin competition before lunch, this would determine who you would play in the final playoff game after lunch. The top team from each group would play off to be crowned Yorkshire Champions and would go on to represent the county at the national final.

In games 1 and 2 some outstanding performances gave us 29 run wins in both games. These 2 fantastic results meant if we were able to win our 3rd and final group game against Oakhill School we would advance to the 1st place playoff match! Would we be able to answer the call of destiny?

Sadly not! We came up against a very strong side whose sharp fielding meant we lost 5 wickets! Given you lose 5 runs every wicket this was huge as we lost by 14 runs…237 v 251.

This meant we were to battle it out in the bronze medal match against the previous 2 years Yorkshire Champions! Alas this extra experience was clear to see has we were beaten 281 v 209.

The latter results, however, take nothing away from the achievement of all students involved in the tabl cricket competitions this year, 4th place in Yorkshire is no mean feat…

A year to practice ready for next year and who knows…we may yet go one step further. Please passs on congratulations to the students involved and a huge thank you to Mrs Watson, Mrs Fee and Mr Edson for their support at both this competition and at the Hull and East Riding competition earlier in the year.
