The Sirius Year 7 Football team were beaten in the Hull Schools Cup

[31 Mar 2011]

The Sirius Year 7 Football team were beaten in the Hull Schools Cup Semi-Final by Winifred Holtby. The boys did not at times play to their usual standards but their effort and commitment could not be faulted, as they worked hard to cover the very large pitch at Winifred.

The game started well for Sirius with Luke Salas and Joseph Wood pushing forward and creating chances, however two quick goals from Winifred put Sirius on the back foot despite Callum Magees efforts in defence. Salas then strode through the Holtby defence to pull a goal back however crucially Sirius conceded on the stroke of half-time to go in 3-1 down.

Credit to the boys who again came out fighting and showed great team spirit. A strike from Wood forced the keeper into a good save however Ewan Malton was on hand to poke the ball home and give Sirius hope at 3-2. However again Sirius gave Winifred a goal straight back to take the score to 4-2. Pushing more players forward in search of goals Winifred hit Sirius with 3 late goals to take the final score to 7-2, a scoreline that didnt reflect the game but there could be no arguments about the winners.

The boys have much to be proud of after finishing 2nd in the Hull Schools League to St Marys, Reaching the Final of the Hull Schools 5- a sides and also the Semi-Finals of the Hull Schools Cup.
