#ThisWeekatSAW – 26th October 2023
Message from the Head of School:
I have had the pleasure this week of addressing parents and families of our new Year 7 pupils during our Pastoral evening. It was great to see so many parents and carers coming into the academy and having positive conversations with staff after their child’s first half term at the academy. Thank you to all those who attended. We have also held our KS5 open night this week and invited parents and carers of our college students into the academy for further academic discussion. Thank you to all those who attended.
We have also enjoyed our annual Year 7’s disco that took place this week for those students who maintained high attendance this half term. A big well done to all those students who qualified. It was a great evening enjoyed by all those who attended.
This half term has been a busy but incredible one filled with lots of academic and sporting achievements. The personal and character development programmes have provided our students with opportunities for visits and trips as well as sound career advice from outside agencies to aid next steps and destinations conversations. We also had our Restart a Heart day in which we ensure all our students have access to in Year 7. Our charity work for the CHSF continues this academic year and fundraising is underway.
Our sporting teams continue to make the academy proud every time they compete. This includes students who have competed this week in the Cross Country event. I’m very proud of the additional offer we have here at Sirius Academy and would encourage all students to continue trying new things and engage with our wider curriculum, enrichment and extracurricular opportunities.
There is a full revision programme running throughout the half term break for Year 11 and Year 13 students. Please encourage your son or daughter if they have been invited to a session to attend. The revision sessions have been designed to meet the needs of those students invited.
Attendance remains a priority for all students at the academy and it is imperative students return on Tuesday 7th November 2023 on time and in full uniform after having enjoyed the half term break.
Please check our socials to keep up to date with news and events from the academy.
Thank you again for your continued support and enjoy the half term break.

Spelling Bee- Year 7
We had a wonderful turnout. The Year 7 students had been practicing all week for it and were all absolutely fantastic and so enthusiastic. The event went down to an 8way sudden death round, with Dija J winning a trophy and bag of chocolate for being the top speller. Well done to all involved!

Year 7 Rugby Boys Success
The Year 7 Rugby boys continued their fine start to their careers at Sirius Academy West as they recorded their 2nd straight win with a 20-10 victory over Kelvin Hall. The win sees the boys qualify for the Yorkshire Cup stages.
Year 9 Rugby Boys Success
The Year 9 Rugby boys remained undefeated in Hull across the 3 years they have represented the Academy, as they recorded a 28-0 win over Archbishop Sentamu. Another tremendous effort by all.
RESPECT FOR Education- Lesson 1 Content
This week the students have completed the following tasks in their Lesson 1 lessons. Please discuss with them as we continue to develop the knowledge of our students:
Culture Task
This week students looked at the career so far of Simone Biles, an American gymnast with thirty World Championship medals and nine Olympic medals. Biles was placed in multiple foster homes as a child before getting adopted by her paternal grandparents.
Votes for Schools Topic (Key Stage 3 students only- This is a debate topic with pre-prepared materials)
This week the students discussed the topic of ‘Should opinions be shared as part of news reporting?’
Character Education
Character Education is a time-tabled lesson within our Lesson 1 curriculum in which students focus on skills and traits which will allow them to be successful in not only their academic studies but also in other aspects of their life.
Students in all year groups have begun to spend the final three weeks of the terms, setting goals and actions to achieve. These can be found in their student planners.
