#ThisWeekatSAW – 27th May 2022
Message from the Head of School:
Hello,
The students have had a fantastic half term at Sirius Academy West. Year 11 and 13 exams are well underway and the students are rising to the challenge and building in resilience and confidence every day. I have had the pleasure of listening to some students read this week as well visiting some lessons in Key Stage 3. I am again impressed with students’ respect and hard work.
This week we welcomed our New Year 7 cohort into the Academy along with their parents to discuss and support their transition to secondary school. We are very excited to welcome them back as Sirius Academy pupils in September.
If your child has been invited into the academy during the half term break for additional revision sessions please support them by encouraging them to attend.
The Academy will re-open to all students on Monday 6th June. Please continue to support the academy and your child’s education by ensuring they attend.
I hope you have an enjoyable May half-term and Jubilee celebration.
Kind regards,
Gemma Ransom (Head of School)

Mountain Biking Trip to Dalby Forest
Well done to the 15 students that had the opportunity to visit Dalby Forest this week to receive some Mountain Biking tuition with the Cycle Hub and Velo Coaching.
These students were selected based on their contribution to previous biking and cycling events at the academy.
The academy continue to be proactive and engage with all attempts to promote active travel and sustainable transport.
We have since been awarded with the highest Modeshift Stars accreditation in the local area. Thank you to those that continue to contribute.
The students were a credit to the academy and showed an incredible attitude throughout the day.
They received some initial guidance and instruction before tackling the different trails around the forest. It’s a lot easier coming down than going up!…
We can’t wait to go again.
Athletics Star
During this week’s PE lessons at Costello, Paige McInerney smashed our Year 7 Long Jump record of 3m.45cm set in 2014 which has been unbeaten until this week. She jumped an amazing 3m 80cm. Well done Paige.
Girls Rugby Success
The talented Year 9 Girls Rugby team were crowned Hull Schools Champions after beating Sirius Academy North in the Hull Schools RL Cup Final at St Marys. A fantastic achievement by this set of students who continue to show great determination to be their best.
Squad: Jodie White, Lauren Culliney, Charlotte Sutton, Amy Lyons, Emily Last, Melody Teal, Kasey-Leigh Morgan and Macie Kemp (Year 8).
ICT Stars
Miss Smalley would like to pass on a huge congratulations to the Y10 Enterprise and Travel & Tourism students for setting the standards for how the exam season should start. Students demonstrated an outstanding attitude in preparing for their BTEC Exams. Students have been a credit to themselves attending lunchtime and after school ‘Revision Master Classes’.
8F- Recycling Challenge
Well done to our 8F Registration group who have challenged themselves throughout the half-term to collect crisp packets. These are then donated to make foil blankets for the homeless.
Facial Recognition
This month we sent out consents for parents to allow their child to use the Facial Recognition software which will come into operation in July.
This software will help ensure a quicker break / lunch experience. We would appreciate your support by completing the consent ASAP so we can begin to get the pictures taken, ready for a smooth transition in July.
We currently have over 700 students registered.
Year 11 students will not be sent the consent as they will not need access due to the time of implementation.
