U.16 Year 11 Football Team Secure Place In Semi-Finals of Hull Schools Cup
Sirius U.16 Football Team defeated Malet Lambert 2 – 1 to reach the semi-finals of the Hull Schools’ Cup.
This was always going to be a difficult tie being drawn away from home against a strong team.
The first half the team found it difficult to maintain possession and had to defend for long periods.
Stubborn defending ensured we stayed in the game and were pleased with a 0 – 0 half-time scoreline -the back four of James Fenton, Ben Foster, Jason Norfolk, Liam Gordon kept to their tasks supported by Rich Moy in goal.
Route one tactics in the second half and the pace of Macauley Hallett, Jordan Abdull and Macauley Duke started to cause problems for their defence. Through this pressure the first goal came from a corner where Liam Gordon sneaked in at the far post to head the team into the lead!
Sirius had further chances to build upon their lead but failed to take advantage and again found themselves on the ‘back foot’ with Liam Robinson, Jack Lister and Markus Craig working tirelessly in midfield. Eventually the pressure told and Rich Moy could not avoid bringing down one of their forwards- penalty converted 1 – 1!
The boys responded brilliantly and although the game could of gone any way Jordan Abdull managed to get on the end of a direct ball from Rich Moy to bang the ball into the roof of the net!
With only a few minutes left the boys held on to claim a great victory!
(Kurtis Adjei did a grand job in replacing Liam Robinson)
The boys will now meet local rivals in a derby semi-final versus Sydney Smith to be played next Tuesday.
Please praise the boys for their efforts during a difficult period where they are involved in revision , many play Rugby, and then represent the Academy at Football – they have been a credit!
A great thanks to Simon Jewitt for his support in getting the boys to and from the game and meeting me at Malet- and for his input with the team.
