U13 Girls Rugby Union: Sirius Academy 12 Cottingham High School 3

[13 Oct 2016]

The U13 girls Rugby Union team played in a friendly last night against Cottingham High School and came out worthy winners with a 12 – 3 victory. The evening at Ionians was for the girls to get some coaching before the match took place, where the Ionians coaches worked on defence, ball handling skills and decision making.

The Sirius Academy West side was a new look team for rugby union as a lot of them had never played before but really got stuck in and played some fantastic rugby.

Captain Georgia Coggin, as always gave a very energetic performance in attack and defence, scoring herself a hat-trick of tries as she proved really hard to tackle with her outstanding step and pace off the mark. Chelsea Anderson also got a hat-trick of tries and is probably the most improved player at this age group over the last year, her power and strength was too much for the Cottingham side to handle. Lucy Sainty got over the tryline twice, but her defence was the main element of her game, as well as her organisational skills. Rachel Robinson was another outstanding performer in the middle of the field, making some great tackles and scoring two very good tries after some smart support play. Year 7 Lucy Parker showed just how good she is going to be in her very first game of rugby for the Academy, getting over for a fine individual try, but also looking very strong in defence even though the girls she was playing against were a year above. It was also pleasing to see Kacey Broadhead get over the tryline for her very first try for Sirius Academy. Alyx Worth and Abbie Brennan made some great yards forward to put the team in good field positions, with the wide players of Emma Waller, Gracie Elletson, Caitlin Reed, Beth Waters and Liberty Boyle supporting the play well and making any tackles on the flanks that were required.

The girls really played as a team and looked liked they are really going to be a force to be reckoned with in the U13 rugby union competitions this year.

Please congratulate the squad on their performance, attitude and behaviour:-

Georgia Coggin, Abbie Brennan, Alyx Worth, Lucy Sainty, Chelsea Anderson, Caitlin Reed, Rachel Robinson, Kasey Broadhead, Gracie Elletson, Emma Waller, Beth Waters, Liberty Boyle and Lucy Parker

Special thanks to Miss Williams for her support with the team.
