U14 girls football team through to the next round of the Humberside Cup
Sirius Academy 3 South Holderness 1
Sirius Academy U14 girls have progressed onto the next round of the Humberside Cup after beating South Holderness 3 – 1 on Friday night in a very good game of football.
Sirius started at a fast pace, with Holly Dodsworth and Danny Waters looking dangerous in attack from the kick off. Sirius dominated in possession and spent the first ten minutes in the opposition half and looked to have taken the lead on a couple of occasions as Danny Waters hit the crossbar from a superb half volley from 35 yards out and then Holly Dodsworth hit the post from a well worked corner. South Holderness had a good, strong player up front who started to cause the Sirius defence a few problems and won a string of corners, in which one of them sailed into the top corner with Rachel Fox having no chance of saving it in the Sirius goal. Great character from the home team saw them really work hard as a team to try and get the equaliser, and just before half time a great ball from Holly Dodsworth found Danny Waters, who controlled and struck the ball over the keeper with a fine 25 yard strike. The scoreline remained 1 – 1 till the break.
Sirius knew that they had been the better team and just needed to convert their chances. Beth Dixon had been given the job of man marking their striker and did a great job in the early stages as South Holderness struggled to get into the Sirius half, and on the few occasions they did Sam Tomlinson and Sophie Murray were there to clear up at the back. Alisha Pearson and Kalisha Quantac were coming more into the game and growing in confidence in the middle of the park. Sirius got their well-deserved second goal when Sam Tomlinson played a great ball from the back over to Danny Waters, who used her strength and speed to get her shot away passed the keeper. Wingers Libby Hinson and Katie Clark were working hard getting up and down the pitch and giving some good balls to the impressive midfielder Holly Dodsworth. Sirius extended their lead further with five minutes remaining after some good play from Holly Biggadyke who played Holly Dodsworth into space, she took the ball to the by line and played a teasing ball across goal, which was met by Danny Waters who slotted home from close range to complete her hat-trick and seal the victory to see Sirius go through to the next round of the Humberside cup in a good team performance.
Please congratulate the squad on their success attitude and behaviour:-
