U16 Girls coast through to the 3rd Round of the Football National Cup
William Farr School 1 Sirius Academy West 10
Sirius Academy West are through the 3rd Round of the National Cup after a comfortable 10 – 1 victory away at William Farr School, Lincoln. It took Sirius a long time to get their shooting boots on as they had numerous opportunities to put themselves in front early on, but either fired at the keeper or over the bar. After the ten minute mark Sirius finally found their form in front of goal and it was Danny Waters who opened the scoring. Shortly after Waters doubled the scoreline after linking up well with Holly Dodsworth. Next on the scoresheet was Ellie Smirk, who fired home with precision with her left foot. Sirius continued to attack the William Farr goal as they struggled to get out of their own half. Sirius started to make life easier for themselves with some slick one, two passes which resulted in Mia Duke getting on the scoresheet. Smirk was next to score her brace after some outstanding work in the middle of the park from Holly Dodsworth who showed great vision and execution to find the striker. Dodsworth and Ellie Cone were pulling the strings for central midfield with some excellent balls through, in which Waters latched onto for her hatrick, showing real pace and strength to beat the defenders. The two strikers of Smirk and Waters combined well just before the halftime break which resulted in another goal for Waters to make it 7 – 0 .
In the freezing cold conditions the girls did well to keep the tempo of their play up, and started the second half well, with some players trying different playing positions. The Sirius side won a string of corners and one was eventually put in directly from Mia Duke. Duke scored another shortly after when Ellie Smirk put in a great low cross which she finished well first time into the corner. Credit to William Farr School, they never gave up, and when there was a mix up in defence the striker capitilised on this and scored from their first shot on goal. Sirius had the final word with a with another fine strike from Waters before WIlliam Farr conceded the game with fifteen minutes remaining, making the final score 10 – 1 in favour of Sirius Academy West.
Please congratulate the girls on their success:-
