U16 Girls win Hull Schools 5-a-side football tournament
Sirius Academy U16 girls football team managed to come top of the league in the Hull School 5 -a-side competition at GOALS, with only 4 players in their team. The girls were undefeated against Malet Lambert, Kelvin Hall, Winifred Holtby and Sirius North.
Sirius Academy 3 Malet Lambert 1
Sirius didnt start the tournament well, and found themselves a goal down after a few minutes of play. But once they got into second gear they controlled the game, with Ellie Cone scoring a well deserved hat-trick after combining well with Ellie Smirk. Malet did have a few chances of their own, but keeper Kayleigh Waller was in fine form to keep the two goal lead.
Kelvin Hall 2 Sirius Academy 5
With Kayleigh Waller out of goal, she also showed her class as a striker, as she opened the scoring with a rifled shot into the corner, her second came shortly after and was unstoppable. Kelvin got a goal back before the calm and composed Ellie Cone extended the lead even further with two well taken goals, showing good feet and skill. Kelvin tried to fight back with another goal, but Waller finished the scoring to round off her hat-trick.
Winifred Holtby 0 Sirius Academy 2
In the toughest game of the competition, it was the defence of Emily Andrew that stood out, to keep a well deserved clean sheet with some very good tackles and interceptions, reading the game well from the back. Ellie Smirk was looking good going forward and when she played through a smart ball to Kayleigh Waller, she finished with ease to open the scoring. Winifred Holtby looked for the equaliser, but the Sirius team worked hard and managed to double the lead with another Waller strike.
Sirius Academy North 1 Sirius Academy West 11
Sirius Academy West showed their class in their final match, with Ellie Cone scoring 6 goals, Ellie Smirk scoring 3 and Kayleigh Waller 2. Sirius North managed to get a goal back from the penalty spot. But the victory meant that Sirius Academy West had won the competition by being undefeated in all four matches, which was a tremendous effort, especially with only 4 players in their squad.
Please congratulate the girls on their success, attitude and behaviour:- Kayleigh Waller, Ellie Smirk, Emily Andrew and Ellie Cone
Special thanks to Miss Williams for her assistance with the team.
