Under 13 Boys Dominate Yorkshire Rugby Union tournament
Despite a slow start, the Sirius Academy Under 13 Rugby Union Squad dominated the White Rose Day or Rugby, finishing top by tries scored against solid opposition from all four corners of Yorkshire. It was fantastic to see year 7’s and year 8’s working together as a solid unit to brush aside teams which play Rugby Union week in and week out.
The team was captained by Tyler Leighton who was an outstanding leader and role model for both year 7’s and 8s.
Top ten moments of the tournament:
Jack Mortimer: The talented Red -Header never attended a Rugby Union training session but finished as the tournament’s top try scorer with a whopping 11 tries!
Captain Tyler Leighton: Was picked up and cradled like a baby in a tackle by Roundhay School’s biggest player.
Charlie (Del Boy) Cooper: Scored his first ever try for the Academy! Keep on trotting trotter!
Kai Shaw: Made two fantastic try saving tackles against players twice his height, leaping onto their backs as they buckled towards the try line.
Connor Arnold: Was a boulder in defence and didn’t miss a single tackle.
Tyler Leighton: Making a try saving tackle using his… face!
Lennon Wilkinson: Probably one of the nicest year 7 lads I have ever come across, also scored his first ever try for the Academy!
Sam “The Savage” Hassard: Played against players older and bigger than him, but this didn’t stop him from dominating in both attack and defence with a range of skills.
Wesley Holmes: Battered his way through tackles relentlessly throughout the Tournament.
Malachi Tony: A complete menace in the rucks, winning turnover after turnover for the team throughout the tournament
