World Book Day – Short Story Competition
Sirius Academy West celebrated World Book Day 2018 by bringing a number of local primary school children together for a short story writing masterclass. Students spent time working with staff from the English department to plan their plot, Drama to develop dialogue and character as well as Art to create illustrations.
Students were challenged to take their booklets away and return them to the Academy when their short story was complete. Mr Gordon and Miss Shaw then had the difficult task of choosing the top two stories to receive a prize. Whilst all of the entries were fantastic, two student’s work stood out from the rest; Jack Ward from Christopher Pickering Primary School and Leo Graham from Francis Askew Primary School.
Jack demonstrated excellent paragraphing skills in his short story and used colourful illustrations to bring his characters to life, gaining him 2nd place and the prize of a David Walliams book collection. Leo showed real creativity in his Star Wars themed story, beautiful handwriting and pages of detail which pushed him into 1st place. Leo was rewarded for his hard work with a Kindle so he can enjoy reading more of his favourite books.
