Y10 Football: Sirius 2 – Sydney Smith 3
The Y10 footballers slipped to a narrow defeat to last season’s Hull Schools’ champions Sydney Smith last night. The boys were made to pay for two costly errors and failing to make their numerous opportunities count.
In an evenly contested First-Half Sirius opened the scoring with a fierce drive from the edge of the area by Jared Laing. Sydney Smith’s attempts to gain parity were thwarted by several good saves from debutante Josh Tyler in goal.
Despite leading at Half-Time, Sirius were punished for starting the Second-Half slowly by two quick goals. Mitchell Levi-Lewis then dragged the team level with a deflected shot on the hour.
Against the run of play Sirius then conceded a third goal with only 15mins remaining. The boys continued to press hard for an equaliser. First Levi-Lewis’ shot hit the bar before Matthew Meakin could only find the goalkeeper from 6yrds. Corey Mitchell was next to test the woodwork with a speculative effort from 30yrds. A succession of dangerous runs and crosses from Jordan Lambert resulted in two headers from Kai Carrington that agonisingly crept past the post. The boys effort was to no avail and they will now face St. Mary’s next week in their second game.
