Y10 Football: Sirius 5 – Kelvin 4

[12 Oct 2012]

The Y10 Football team battled to victory against 2010 and 2011 Hull Schools’ League Winners Kelvin Hall last night. Despite the late withdrawal of a number of players the team persevered and were able to call upon support from James Constable and Connor Boyce to add to the numbers.

In an exciting match it was Kelvin who scored first through their dangerous Hull City striker. His speculative effort from the edge of the area was rewarded after the Sirius defence allowed him too much time to turn and shoot. Sirius responded admirably and replied straight away when Ryan Holden latched onto an incisive pass and lashed the ball past the Kelvin goalkeeper. The first 20mins was an insight in to how the match would unfold.

Kelvin would take the lead a further three times during the course of the game to lead 2-1, 3-2 and 4-3. All four goals coming from the left boot of their striker. Sirius showed admirable courage and determination to keep going despite the setbacks and continued to draw level throughout the game. McKinley Swire’s dipping strike from 25yrds making it 2-2, Cameron Faulkner’s perseverance making it 3-3 and Matthew Meakin latched onto a cross for 4-4.

Provided with additional inspiration from the touch-line after the arrival of Mr Basile the Y10s began to dominate and camped themselves in the Kelvin Hall half. James Garrod and Connor Giddings marshalled the defence well and began to thwart the attacks of the Kelvin Hall danger man. With time running out excellent endeavour from Connor Boyce and Matthew Meakin down the left resulted in Cameron Faulkner having an opportunity from 8yrds. His deft touch over the goalkeeper was celebrated by all the players.

The Y10s will attempt to continue their good form against Endeavour next week before playing St. Mary’s the week after in what could be a title show-down.

Thanks to Mr Basile for is support and Liam Gordon (Sixth Form) for officiating.
