Y10 Football: Sirius 6 – Endeavour 1
The Y10 football team continued their current run of good form last night with a comprehensive 6-1 victory against Endeavour High.
Forced to play against a ferocious wind in the First-Half the team applied themselves dutifully, countering the elements with some excellent passing and movement. Good work from Connor Giddings, who once again excelled in defence, reclaimed possession and handed Ryan Holden an opportunity from 25yrds which he took with great aplomb, finishing via the far post. Another swift counter involving Brandon Green, Cameron Faulkner and Holden provided Matthew Meakin with the chance to double Sirius’ advantage but he failed to get sufficient contact from only 6yrds. This miss would prove costly when a speculative wind-assisted effort from the Endeavour striker evaded James Constable in the Sirius goal for a 1-1 Half-Time score line.
With the advantage of the wind now with Sirius the boys began to camp themselves within the Endeavour half, as their opponents struggled to clear their lines and mount any serious attack. Moments into the second half Faulkner scored his first of the evening, seizing onto a through ball from Holden after good work again from Giddings. Faulkner then scored his second and Sirius’ third after forcing the ball in from close range. As Sirius’ pressure continued to mount Meakin’s hard-work paid off when he latched onto an incisive pass from Holden to divert the ball past the on-rushing Endeavour goal for 4-1. Meakin’s continued nuisance and presence upfront then forced an Endeavour defender into a wild clearance that flew past his own goalkeeper for 5-1. Fittingly it was Faulkner and Holden that combined for the sixth and final goal when Faulkner headed in Holden’s dangerous corner.
The boys now finish their league season next week with a showdown with St. Mary’s and a potential fixture against Trinity. Thanks to Mr Basile and Mr Rust for their support during the match, and Jordan Abdull and Zardasht Taha (Sixth Form) for officiating.
