Hornsea 0 – SAW 9

The Y11 football team swept aside a well disciplined and hard working Hornsea side to secure their place in the next round of the English Schools National Cup tonight.

The first-half was tight and cagey with both teams struggling to maintain possession and the game affected by the bright sun. Nerves were eased with a deflected opener from Ali Alsheriafe. Those on the touch line claimed an own goal but the night’s captain wasn’t going to be denied. A second goal before Half-Time made for an easier team talk. Harry Blackham stooping to head in Tom Wilkinson’s excellent corner.

The encouragement of a 2-0 lead, the rustiness of the first-half out of the way and buoyed by the introduction of Elliot Pashley, Kieran Broadhead and Jamie Hope, the team played some excellent football in the second-half and were able to turn their dominance into seven unanswered goals. The dangerous Harry Blackham adding another four, two for the industrious Leon Stewart and a well-deserved goal for Tom Wilkinson.

The team now turn their attention to the Hull Schools League as they await the draw for the next round.

Well done to all of the boys involved!
