Y11 Football Match v St Marys
The Y11 Football team battled to a good performance but were knocked out of the Hull Schools cup by a very good St Mary’s team.
The Sirius team started well pushing forward and taking the game to St Mary’s, however the well organised opposition stopped the Sirius team from creating any real clear chances. A short lapse in concentration from a corner allowed St Mary’s to grab the oppening goal at a time when the game was still very much even.
Credit to the team who knew that with the wind going in their favour they were still in with a chance of winning the match, the boys never really got into their stride and St Mary’s took great advantage of this by extending their lead. Sirius went close from distance on a couple of occasions but another goal which was very well worked from the opposing team took the game out of Sirius’ grasp with time running down. Credit to the lads they kept on fighting and showed great team spirit, a strike from Connor Robinson, great worked from Steve Simpson and Adam Walker forced the keeper into a couple of good saves however Sirius’ inability to put the ball in the net was ultimately their downfall. Late on into the match a fourth goal saw St Mary’s go further in front but the boys can be proud that they never gave up until the final whistle.
The team can be very happy with how they have done this season and even thogh they suffered defeat can be pleased that they kept going until the end, a 4-0 scoreline showed that the right team won but not the difference in the two teams performances.
