Y11 Rugby Team Final Score: Sirius 7 Wolfreton 10
Year 11 Rugby Union put on a marvellous display
The year 11 Rugby Team led by Captain Tom Wilkinson showed no sign of rust despite not playing Rugby Union for 2 years! We lined up against two schools who predominantly play Rugby Union throughout the school year in National Competitions.
Our first opponents were local rivals Wolfreton who scored 2 early unconverted tries, as the Sirius pack took a while to warm into the game. We finally found our mojo with Tom Wilkinson scoring a superb solo try. We narrowly lost this match with the referee controversially blowing the whilst just as we looked likely to score another try!
Final Score: Sirius 7 Wolfreton 10.
Our second match of the Tournament was against Snaith School, who usually play on Saturdays in a league consisting of seasoned Public School boys. Despite Snaith comfortably beating Wolfreton, it was Sirius who started the game strong, physically dominating Snaith in every position. The highlight of the game was an inch-perfect kick off the toe of Tom Wilkinson which landed snug in the hands of Ahmed Bela, setting up our first try. Leon Stewart put us two tries in front early into the game, but Snaith responded with two tries of their own. We had to defend on our line for the majority of second half and in the end it was 2 superb kicks from Sam Macauley which made the difference!
Final score: Sirius 14 Snaith School 10
It was a fantastic achievement considering we played with 14 players (Rugby Union is played with 15 a-side). Jack Denman and Alfie Bottomley made their School Rugby debuts, having not previously played Rugby prior to this game but did not look out of place.
