Y8 Boys Cricket
Many thought you’d have to fly to India, Sri Lanka or Australia to find a game of cricket at this time of year. Fortunately, it was just quick jaunt over to Nuffield Gym last Friday which gave the boys an opportunity to dust off their googlies, beamers and dibbly-dobbly’s.
Malet Lambert v Sirius West
The day started well with the Sirius Men facing off with Malet. Malet set a good but chase able score of 52 with too many of their runs coming from fielding and bowling errors. A rousing rendition of Jerusalem could be heard wafting through the tennis arena as Alfie Morgan and Mason Palmer-Opie stepped out to bat. Malet bowled well but we were able to keep up with the required run rate until the middle stages with a few cheap wickets throwing he win into doubt. Final over 10 required, straight bat and pinch the runs was the call. A call they duly answered with the the lads running out 56-52 winners (over were to be completed regardless of scores).
St Mary’s v Sirius West
After St Mary’s brushed aside Malet in a one sided 86-31 victory it was an ominous sign when St Mary’s won the toss and elected to bat first. It would take 100% focus and a bit of luck…unfortunately neither were apparent as St Mary’s romped to 102 after their allocated overs with mis-fielding and bowling errors added to their gargantuan total but in truth the West men were simply outclassed on the day and managed to get 22 in response.
Overall a very pleasing day and the lads played in the right spirit, it was also great to see students such as Reegan Fearnly get involved in a competitive school fixture and Macauley Medlam stepping up to Y8 and did not look out of place.
Well done to all the boys!
