Year 10 Boys through to the Yorkshire Plate Final

Please congratulate the Year 10 Boys on reaching the final of the Yorkshire Plate for the very first time! The boys have worked extremely hard this year and it has all come together as a team and they are reaping the rewards from their improvements and determination to succeed.
Sirius Academy West 30 Ryburn 18
Ryburn were a big side and got on top early in the game with some good field position, but the outstanding defence managed to keep them out for two sets of six. This filled the Sirius side with confidence and they took that into their attack play, with a couple of good drives from Joe Aitcheson and Harry Kynman to take Sirius to the middle of the park. On play three a precision ball from Brandon Sargesson found a great line from Leon Stewart who hit the gap and raced over, Ben Canvass converted. Sirius got in their stride and were frustrating the Ryburn side with their aggression in attack and defence and it wasn’t long after till the scoreline was doubled, this time some good hands down the line found Joe Aitcheson who attracted a couple of defenders and the draw and pass to Leon Stewart sent him away on the right hand side for his second score, converted again 12 – 0. Ryburn got a try back of their own after a mistake from the kick off as their big strong prop forward crashed over from close range 12 – 6. Sirius had the last word of the half when Brandon Sargesson showed a piece of individual skill to show, strength and agility to evade 4 defenders and dive over, halftime score 18 – 6 to Sirius.
Ryburn knew they needed to score first to be in with a chance of coming back into the game and they did just that to make it 18 – 12. Ryburn started to get on top in the game but the Sirius defence was hard to break down and on their last tackle a high ball was taken well by Joe Kennedy on the wing, he stepped passed a couple of defenders and then picked up speed to outpace the Ryburn defence and run over 80 meters to extend the Sirius lead to 24 – 12. Ryburn replied immediately with ten minutes remaining to make it 24 – 18 and set for a tense finish. Both sides made mistakes in the final stages of the game as the pressure was showing, but Sirius held their nerve and seal the victory with another well worked try, this time it was from the scrum as Brandon Sargesson once again found Leon Stewart on an unders line who timed it to perfection and no-one was catching him as he raced over to make it 30 – 18 after Ben Canvass made it 100% with his kicking! The boys celebrated their fantastic team performance and are looking forward to their final in May against St Wilfreds Academy.
If you see the boys around school please congratulate them on their outstanding achievement:-
