Year 10 Girls make it through to the Yorkshire RL Competition
The Sirius Academy West Year 10 Girls made it through to the Yorkshire stages of the competition by beating Withernsea and Sirius Academy North last night in the Qualifying Tournament at St Marys Academy. This now means that all four age groups (Year 7 – Year 10) from Sirius Academy West will be representing Hull Schools at the Yorkshire Competition over in Castleford early March.
The Year 10 Girls had trained extremely well leading up to this competition and showed their organisation in attack and defence in both of the games, proving that they will be a real contender to go through to the National Competition, something that this team has never done, but certainly has the talent to.
Sirius Academy West 8 Withernsea 0
Sirius dominated in their first game against Withernsea, running in 8 tries without reply in the 20 minute game. Smart play from acting half back Jasmine Fielder got Sirius off to a great start with a scoot over the tryline. Chantelle Dunn showed superb footwork and turn of pace to double the lead. Jasmine Fielder once again went over from close range before the best try of the game after some great hands down the line to find the strong running Louise Jessop to go over in the corner before the halftime break. Jessop went over again early into the second half before captain Lucy Parker broke through the defensive line and there was no stopping her as she went over for a well deserved try, Jasmine Fielder rounded off the scoring with two more tries of her own showing real vision and skill. Although in attack Sirius were unstoppable, their defence was absolutely outstanding, a real team effort with the strong forwards of Leah Pearson, Nicole George and Talia Martinez leading the way in the middle of the park to limit any chances for the Withernsea side and out wide Zeina Hassoum and Lucy Stewart making sure there was no way through.
Sirius Academy West 4 Sirius Academy North 1
Sirius Academy North had beaten Withernsea in their earlier match, so whoever won this one would go through to the Yorkshire stages. The game started evenly matched with both sides throwing everything at each other in this Sirius derby. But it was Sirius West who broke the deadlock with a well worked try from Lucy Stewart after some great team play to find her out wide. Lucy Parker was next over as she backed up the play well for a good offload from Nicole George to go over and double the lead. The strong running Elise Hill shower her power by going over to make it 3 – 0, but Sirius North would not give up and showed great character and determination to get one back just before half time. The second half Louise Jessop rounded off the victory and a fine team performance to put this very talented Year 10 Girls side through the next stage of the competition.
Please congratulate the following girls on their success, attitude and performance:-
Lucy Parker, Lucy Stewart, Nicole George, Talia Martinez, Leah Pearson, Louise Jessop, Chantelle Dunn, Jasmine Fielder, Elise Hill and Zeina Hassoum
Special thanks to Miss Low for her support with team.
