Year 10 Girls RL Hull Schools Champions

The Year 10 Girls Rugby League team won all their games in the Hull Schools Competition to see them finish top of the league and secure their place in the Yorkshire Tournament in March with an an outstanding team performance in all three games.
Sirius Academy West 5 St Marys College 0
Sirius West started the competition against a strong St Marys side. Sirius West were made to earn their two first half tries as the defence of St Marys was hard to break through. It was a quick play the ball and pass from Lauren Sutton that put Chloe Dunn through the gap to open the scoring. Danny Waters showed her skill and speed as she doubled the lead before the halftime break. The defence of Sirius West was looking good with St Marys struggling to get away from the marker. The second half started well for Sirius West as Amy Purdon broke through the line to go over. The lead was extended even further when substitute Ellie Hinchcliffe took the ball in well and managed to crash over showing real power. Amy Purdon rounded off the scoring in a fantastic team performance to start the competition with a well-earned 5 – 0 victory.
Sirius Academy West 7 Sirius Academy North 1
The Sirius West side was growing in confidence as they started to play with real structure that caused the North defence all sorts of problems. Drop offs and runarounds that had been practiced in training were coming off as gaps started to appear that West took full advantage of. Cameron Shakespear burst through the would be tacklers to open the scoring before Danny Waters, Mia Husband and Shannon Jordan all went over before the halftime whistle. Sirius West didn’t have it all their own way as North made a great break and scooted over from close range. Danny Waters crashed over in the corner and then went over shortly after for a full length try. Milly Jordan from Year 9 made it 7 – 1 after some great play down the right where she was put away in the gap on the wing and no-one was stopping her as she raced 50 meters to touch down.
Sirius Academy West 5 Archbishop Sentamu 0
Archbishop had won one and drawn one before coming into this game and had some good strong runners, but West proved their skill and strength in attack and defence as they scored a nice early try, captain Danny Waters once again went nearly the full length of the pitch to score the opener. Cameron Shakespear doubled the lead before the halftime break. Archie started the second half well and could have gone over, but Danny Waters showed great technique to turn the player over and hold her up over the line in a real try saver. Sirius scored three more tries in the second half, Amy Purdon showed real aggression to go over for the third, Danny Waters made it four, before a couple of drop offs resulted in Alisha Pearson straightening up through the gap and scoring the final try of the tournament.
The games were superbly refereed by our 6th form students, who deserve great credit for their confidence throughout and also managing to run such a successful tournament.
Please congratulate the squad on their outstanding performance, attitude and behaviour:-
