Year 10 hunt for the cup double continues…
Following the cup final battle and victory over Malet in the Humberside cup, the year 10 Sirius team faced Kelvin in the 1/4 final of the Hull Schools Cup!
Things did not start brightly for the team with 2 key absentees of Alex Appleby and Josh Jarvis, both who played outstanding in the core of the team last game. Followed by what can be called a team dispute at the start of the game, Stephen Pougher stayed in goal despite ‘broken fingers’. It was Stephen Pougher who became a hero again too, with some more excellent shot-stopping.
It was a slow, sluggish stop-start to the game with both teams struggling to keep possession and take advantage of the situation. Neither team had any real opportunity at the start of the game, with weak attempts and offsides for both. It wasn’t until later in the half with a dead ball situation that the chance came… A brilliant corner from the right was met by a bullet header by Adam Kelsey which brought a equally fine save from the kelvin keeper! However, the ball was never cleared and a scamble in front of the unfortunate keeper was finished off by Kelsey to make it 1-0! A deserved goal from Kelsey who would continue to put in a MOM performance. The half-time whistle blew at 1-0 to the relief of all.
The second half started with Martin Jude replacing Jordan Hance to provide support for Harry ‘Offisde’ Knight in the Sirius front line. Once again though it was another slow and sluggish start to the half. Charlie Morriss on another day could have scored a Hat-trick, if not more, with his strength and pace beating the Kelvin defence on many occasion let was unfortunate with his finish.
With the game still at 1-0 and kelvin starting to press higher, it was Pougher and Kelsey who kept the team in the game with perfectly timed tackles and excellent saves. Credit also goes to Will Wilson who once again slotted into his new team well and put in some excellent tackles to keep the Sirius lead. With time running out and still no goal to provide a cushion for the lead, Shahyar Hossini replaced Harry Knight up front to much avail! Another fine corner, this time from the left, was met perfectly by Shahyar to leave the keeper with no chance of saving.
Finally, after what turned out as a tough game in the end, Sirius won 2-0 at set up a semi final meeting with rivals Malet Lambert.
Please congratulate all of the team on their victory and thanks to Mr Jarvis, Foster and Proven for their support! Mr White is very proud again!
