Year 10 letter – 22 May 2020
Dear Parent/Carer
Further to my recent letter regarding the wider opening of Sirius Academy West to pupils in Year 10 from 1 June 2020. I am sorry to inform you, that following new advice provided on 21 May, the Trust has taken the difficult decision to defer our plans. The school will remain open to vulnerable children and those of key workers only.
Following the latest information from Public Health England relating to the greater risk of transmission by secondary aged pupils, advice from unions, together with the lack of further guidance from the government, we feel that it is no longer in the best interests of our pupils to provide a 3-day timetabled offer that may be unsustainable, and lead to the spread of the virus.
I apologise for any inconvenience caused to parents/carers who had expressed a wish to send their son or daughter to school on Monday 1 June. As soon as we have guidance from the government, we will endeavour to re-open to pupils in Year 10. Staff will continue to set work and provide feedback
If you have any questions or wish to discuss the matter further, please contact me through the e-mail address: [email protected].
The Trust is carefully monitoring the current situation relating to the wider opening of schools and will inform parents/carers as soon as we have more information.
Thank you for your continued support during this very challenging period. Yours sincerely
Cathy Taylor Chief Executive
