Year 10 team complete the National Cypher Challenge 2016
Sirius Academy West is one of over 700 UK schools and colleges who participated in this years National Cypher Challenge. The competition was run with the backing of some high-profile partners; these include the University of Southampton, British Computer Society, Trinity College Cambridge, IBM and the home of British code breaking GCHQ.
The competition is structured as a series of encrypted messages which tell a story. This year the team were trying to unravel the mysterious death of Jamelia, a young scientist working in the hottest topic in mathematical physics; gravitational waves.
The team consisted of 4 year 10 students; William Gomm, Favour Dim, Kyle Scott and Megan Gelson. The results are now in and our hard working tenacious, code breakers finished tied in first place for challenge A and in a respectable 106th place for challenge B, putting them in 1st place out of all schools in the Hull and east Riding area.
