Year 10s reach Yorkshire Cup stages!
The Sirius Academy Year 10 Rugby League team were successful in reaching the Carnegie Champion Schools Yorkshire Cup with three impressive victories in the Hull Schools Qualifying tonight at a wet and cold Sydney Smith. The boys were efficient throughout, been clearly the most skilful team, but their attitude and team spirit was as equally impressive as their skills.
The 1st match saw Sirius up against Kelvin Hall. Controlling the ball well and defending hard through Pete Butcher and Jamie Warcup, Sirius built up a lead through a long-distance George Scottow try and Calvin Parker crashing through a gap off a Kieran Jones pass, with Benn Arbon converting both for 12-0 Sirius. Jones finished up the try scoring, stepping through for a 16-0 win.
The 2nd match saw Sirius against a big Wolferton side. Butcher was 1st over quickly followed by Scottow with 1 Arbon goal for 10-0 Sirius. Back came Wolferton to score for 10-4. However Sirius dug deep with Harry Tyson-Wilson controlling play at will, and Kai Overton and Arbon performing well. Liam Sigurddson crossed late on for a 14-4 win.
Last up for Sirius was Sydney Smith. The boys proved too much for the hosts with Liam Harris causing havoc and Josh Jackson working tirelessly. Liam Platten again was impressive crossing for two tries, with Harris dancing through for a hat-trick of tries, with conversions from Harris and Arbon (2), before Warcup crossed late on for a 32-0 win.
