Year 11 Boys Rugby League: Sirius Academy West 42 Freeston Academy 10
Sirius Academy Year 11 boys have made it through to the quarter finals of the Yorkshire Cup after a convincing 42 – 10 victory over Freeston Academy. But the Sirius boys did not have it all their own way early on in the game as it was Freeston who went over first and converted to make it 6 – 0. Sirius responded well immediately and got a try back of their own as Luke Moss put Callum Riley away in the corner to make it 6 – 4 to Freeston. Sirius managed to get on the scoresheet to put them in front with another good try in the corner from Callum Riley to make the score 8 – 6 in favour of Sirius. Freeston looked good in attack on their next set of six and managed to get over for a try in the corner themselves to put the score 10 – 8 in their favour. From then on in it was all Sirius as they started to play some outstanding rugby. A great break from Mikey Lewis down the centre who drew in the fullback and sent away Jack Scottow to score under the posts, which was converted. Just before the halftime break another good try from Scottow as he ran onto the ball with pace through the gap to go over the tryline to make the halftime score 20 – 10 in favour of Sirius.
The second half started well for Sirius Academy, going over on their first set of six after some great play down the middle of the park and a quick play the ball creating an overlap for Joe Sedman on the right who dived over in the corner. Mikey Lewis was next on the scoresheet to extend their lead even further with a great solo try as he spotted the gap and stepped his way through to the tryline. Sirius were looking good in defence as Freeston struggled to break their line. Some good play again down the middle involving the strong running of Rhys Purchon attracted defenders in and made space for Keane Stephenson to run a good unders line and score under the sticks. Declan Jackson rounded off the scoring with another well worked team try to make the final score 42 – 10 to Sirius Academy.
Please congratulate the boys on their success:-
